I admit, I get nervous photographing a surprise proposal! It’s just so very exciting, and a real honor for me to be entrusted with capturing this uniquely intimate moment. Jack and his new fiance, Tracy, are graduates of UC Berkeley. They had made plans to visit friends in the San Francisco Bay Area, as they live in Los Angeles, so Jack thought it would be the perfect opportunity to pop the question. Jack hired a caricature artist, Tucky, to stage himself at the base of the Campanile, who pretended to look for paying clients. I was off to the side with my long lens, pretending to be on the phone. Tucky would secretly sketch Jack on one knee, proposing with a ring in hand. All went well and to say Tracy was shocked is an understatement. Too see the light in the couple’s eyes and the emotional reaction of Tracy will always stay in my heart. Friends came out of the bushes to congratulate the pair and there were no dry eyes on site.
