Starting 2026 Together: Let Me Reintroduce Myself

Your San Francisco Bay Area Wedding and Engagement Photographer

Hello, friend! I’m Christina Hernandez, a documentary wedding photographer in the Bay Area. I’ve spent the last 30+ years photographing love stories across San Francisco and beyond.

Whether you just got engaged over the holidays or you’ve been quietly planning your dream wedding, I’m so glad you’re here. More than just taking photos, I’ve spent these years getting to know wonderful couples and being part of their biggest moments.

If we haven’t met yet, pull up a chair. Let me tell you a little about who I am and how I work.

How I Became a Documentary Wedding Photographer in the Bay Area

I spent 15 years as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Chronicle. I chased stories all over the Bay Area.

Here’s what I learned during those years: the most powerful images aren’t the ones you orchestrate. They’re the ones that unfold naturally when people forget the camera is there.

That photojournalism foundation shaped me as a documentary wedding photographer in the Bay Area. I approach your engagement session and your wedding day the same way I approached news stories. With authenticity, adaptability, and a commitment to capturing real moments.

I’m not interested in making you pose awkwardly. I don’t want to create something that looks like everyone else’s photos. I want to capture YOU. The way you actually laugh together. How you look at each other when you think no one’s watching. The little moments that make your relationship uniquely yours.

What It’s Like Working with Me

Here’s something you should know right up front: I cry at weddings. Every single time.

I get emotionally invested in my couples. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I’m tearing up during your vows or grinning like crazy watching you dance with your dad, it means I’m fully present. I’m completely immersed in your story.

I’m a Bay Area Native

I was born in Oakland. Apparently that’s becoming rare! My family arrived in San Francisco during the Gold Rush. We clearly liked it here because we never left.

What this means for you: I know all the secret spots. The hidden beaches. The quiet overlooks. The places where the golden hour light is absolutely magical for your engagement photos.

Whether you’re dreaming of Baker Beach at sunset, the rolling hills of Marin, or that tucked-away garden in Berkeley, I’ve probably already scouted it.

I Embrace Whatever Your Day Brings

Unexpected fog rolling in? Your flower girl refusing to walk down the aisle? Uncle Joe giving an interesting toast?

My photojournalism background taught me to adapt, stay calm, and find the beauty in whatever unfolds. Some of my favorite images have come from the “imperfect” moments.

How I Capture Your Story

Yes, we’ll absolutely do formal family portraits. Your mom will be thrilled, I promise.

But what really makes my heart sing? Capturing the in-between moments. That spontaneous hug. Those happy tears. The way you both dissolve into laughter for no reason anyone else would understand.

I’m here to tell YOUR story. Not recreate someone else’s Pinterest board.

Every couple is different. Maybe you’re planning an intimate City Hall ceremony followed by champagne at your favorite restaurant. Maybe you’re going all out with a 200-person celebration at a Napa vineyard. Maybe you’re eloping to Big Sur with just your closest friends.

Whatever you’re envisioning, I’m here to document it with warmth, artistry, and authenticity.

A Little Peek into My Life

My own wedding? Completely unconventional. Richard and I got married on a beach south of Santa Cruz with a Mexican trio playing, pitchers of margaritas on a folding table, and his family’s homemade beans, rice, and tri-tip. We bribed the musicians to keep playing with a money dance. It was chaotic and imperfect and absolutely perfect for us.

That day taught me something important: your wedding doesn’t need to be flawless to be magical. As long as there’s love, laughter, good food, and the people who matter most, you’re going to have the best day of your life.

These days, Richard and I share our home with Ernie, aka Baby E. He’s a scruffy rescue terrier who gets furious at the sight of squirrels and loves whipped cream.

Let’s Create Something Beautiful Together

If you’re looking for a documentary wedding photographer in the Bay Area who’ll treat your love story with the care and joy it deserves, I’d be honored to work with you. I’m not just here to take pretty pictures – I’m here to witness your day, to laugh and maybe cry with you, and to create images that will remind you of exactly how it felt to be this happy.
