Summer Sonoma Valley Wedding
Erika and Daryl’s wedding celebration continued long after the sun had set behind the Sonoma Coast hills. The exuberant joy of the morning preparations spilled over into the entire day. Even Fillmore – the four-pawed friend who is such a big part of their lives – was there to witness Erika and Daryl’s vows. MacRostie Winery and Vineyards, located minutes from historic Healdsburg, was a breathtaking venue for the ceremony and reception. The view of vineyards stretching across the hills, toward stands of oaks, provided a place of beauty and serenity in which to celebrate Erika and Daryl’s commitment to each other.
Historic Healdsburg is located just ninety minutes north of San Francisco. This reinvented town is a destination for lovers of fine food and wine. One nineteenth century Victorian home has been updated as a boutique inn, the Grape Leaf Inn. The well-cared for exterior preserves the home’s unique Victorian detailing. Inside, the rooms are bright with classic styling. Here, in the charming Grape Leaf Inn, Erika began her day.
Preparing for the Big Day
Joined by friends and family, Erika prepared for one of the best days of her life. Her sister, who arranged all the flowers for the wedding, was there by her side. Heather, of Unveiling Designs by Heather, created Erika’s hairstyle. Despite the nod to history in Erika’s hair and earrings, these were not stodgy, Victorian wedding preparations. These ladies were having fun. Erika’s mom and soon to be mother-in-law laughed and danced, beginning the celebration early. There were the expected gasps of delight when her friends saw Erika’s amazing gown, from Amy Kuschel, for the first time. But the best moment of the morning was the first look.
Erika made her way downstairs where Daryl was waiting, hands over his eyes, for the first glance of his bride. When he turned to admire and embrace her, he cried.
Couple’s Portraits in Sonoma
I took the couple to downtown Healdsburg for couple’s photos in this picturesque town. The day was drizzly which created an opportunity for fun umbrella photos. Seeing these two sheltering under the umbrella, speaks to me of all the sweetness and safety of love.
Next, we all made our way to MacRostie Winery and Vineyards for family photos. Situated in the hills, the venue boasts breathtaking views of the Russian River Valley on one side, and the carefully cultivated vineyards on the other. Here, Fillmore, the dog, joined the couple for family photos.
Ceremony and Reception
The ceremony was held outdoors, under an awning. Daryl accompanied Erika’s mom down the aisle, with Fillmore leading the way. And Fillmore was seated with the bride’s parents during the ceremony. After all, he’s family.
Following the exchange of vows, rings, and the first kiss everyone made their way to the Tasting Room. This gorgeous space boasts sweeping views of the valley below. Park Avenue Catering provided an extraordinary dinner and dessert at this flawless reception. Then DJ Sami Fink with Heart of Gold DJ’s – an all women DJ crew – cranked up the fun, incorporating Erika and Daryl’s favorite songs into the playlist.
Wishing Erika and Daryl – and Fillmore – many happy tomorrows filled with family, love, and beauty!
