This Estate Yountville wedding features the new Mr. and Mrs. Davoodi. Melissa and Amir celebrated their nuptials in luxurious style in this adorable Napa Valley hamlet.
We staged a first look at the opulent and luxurious Estate Yountville. Located in the heart of the Napa Valley wine country, the Estate Yountville is one of those wedding venues that simply blows you away as soon as you set foot in it. We were thrilled that Melissa and Amir chose this as their backdrop!
Melissa and Amir’s Gorgeous Persian Wedding at the Estate Yountville
In addition to a stunning choice in venue, Melissa and Amir poured an incredible amount of thought into all of the little details. They wanted to reflect Amir’s Persian heritage, so they incorporated several symbolic items as well as a few traditions.
The table at the ceremony where the couple sat is called sofreh aghd, a traditional wedding ceremony spread where legal marriage and ceremonial traditions are exchanged. In Iran, where there are plenty of diverse religious backgrounds, the sofreh aghd is often practiced regardless of faith—and has been part of Persian weddings for thousands of years.
The many symbolic items that make up the sofreh aghd (which literally translates to “spread ceremony”) all represent elements of the couple’s new life together. For example, the women in the bridal party and the mothers rub pillars of sugar above their heads to sprinkle them with sugar to symbolize a “sweet life” together. Each sofreh is unique and has its own elements to reflect the style of the bride and groom in addition to the bride and groom’s personal style. Some designs are more elaborate and intricate, while others are simple and understated.
A Wine Country Wedding Reception
The reception, which was held on the property and in the barrel room, featured both Persian music and Western music. We thought it was the perfect way to honor the blended cultures of their marriage. Amir and Melissa also shared a first dance that was stunningly choreographed—Amir even picked her up in the air at the end of the dance!
